Yquem 2017 has been released at €275 per bottle ex-negociant, up 10% on the 2016 (€250). It is being offered by the trade for £3,528 per 12×75, an 11% increase on the 2016’s opening price per case (£3,168).
Critical reception for the 2017 Yquem has been mixed. Antonio Galloni (Vinous) scored the wine 94-97 points and said he “expect[s] the 2017 is going to need many years to be at its best, but is also likely to remain exuberant and a bit unruly”. He added: “I don’t see the quiet sophistication of the 2015, or the energy of the 2013 nor the total sense of harmony of the 2001.”
Neal Martin (Vinous) awarded a similar 95-97 points. In his tasting note, he said that “this might not be up there with the top tier of Yquem’s over the last century, however, it is clearly a very well-crafted and complex Sauternes that will last many years.”
Lisa Perrotti-Brown (Wine Advocate), on the other hand, scored the wine 97-99 points and said that it “finishes with epic length and great depth”.
James Suckling agreed. He scored the wine 98-99 points and said it had “beautiful fruit and intensity” and was an “extreme but wonderful style”.
