Pavie 2017

Pavie 2017 has been released at €276 per bottle ex-negociant, down 6.1% on the release price of the 2016 (€294). It is being offered by the international trade at £3,360 per 12×75, a decrease of 10.8% on the 2016 release of £3,588 per case.

A number of critics have been positive in their reviews of the wine. Lisa Perotti-Brown was the wine’s greatest advocate, she awarded Pavie 2017 a score of 97-99, and praised it as “a very unique expression of the vintage”. Neal Martin, who scored it 93-95 points, called it “a Pavie for long-term ageing” and noted that “patience (is) required”.

Liv-ex members slightly underestimated today’s release price, opting for the lower value of €261 when polled in a recent survey.

Fans of Pavie should also exercise patience in their purchasing decisions because today’s offering comes with a huge premium to the price implied by Liv-ex’s fair value methodology. Not only is today’s release more expensive than the higher scoring 2016, which has been discounted in the market since being released last year, but also the “perfect” 2009 and 2010 vintages. Only the perfect 2005 vintage is more expensive.
